Monday 23rd May 2016 6:15pm- 7:45pm
Leasowe Nursery School and Family Centre
Dr Helen Bibby

Young children naturally seek out patterns and order to understand the world around them. This means they are natural mathematicians! The 'Early Years' is a prime time for developing this instinct to explore the mathematical world around them. The issue is to consider how to provide experiences to develop these skills. Young children want to move, repeat and explore using their personal, scoial, emotional, physical, communication and langauge skills. If you are working with young children, particularly two year olds - this course will help you to develop this area of learning through the prime areas.

The course includes:
  • What mathematics means through the eyes of a young child.
  • How schemas play a vital role in understanding mathematics from the perspective of the child
  • Practical ideas to develop back at your setting.

Please note is is an overview of the course presented last term.
