'Looked after children' may have experienced many changes before they reach the age of 5 yrs. Research tells us that the early years is a prime time for the development of physical, social, emotional, communication, language, early reasoning, problem solving and attention skills. These areas are promoted through the child's relationship with a consisitent, sensitive, warm and loving adult. For many children who are 'looked after', their developement is interrupted, particularly in the area of attachment. This interruption can create barriers to learning, forming relationship with others, developing shared attention, memory, social interaction and langauge skills. Equally the children may communicate some of the difficulites they have experienced through challenging behaviours .

This is a two part course focusing on the following:

  • Early brain development
  • Attachment Styles
