This course aims t o support practitioners to be able to place the child with social communication difficulties at the heart of the EYFS and the SEND Code of Practice 2014 and to enable the practitioner to reflect upon their practice and thus plan effectively.
This is a two part course for practitioners who may have a child with social communication difficulties or who simply wish to learn more about this area to support children in the future.
Participants will need to attend both sessions.
Part one will consider:
- How young children learn through interaction with others and the challenges this creates for children with social communication difficulties.
- Triad of Impairment
- The prime and specific areas of learning and the ways in which they can both support and challenge children with social communication difficulties.
Practitioners will be asked to complete a task in their setting and bring this to part two.
Part two will provide opportunity for the practitioner to:
- Apply their understanding and knowledge of social communication difficulties to their setting’s learning environments
- The course will also present practical ideas to support children’s learning through the prime and specific areas of learning.
