This course will enable practitioners to understand: the area of sensory processing, why some children may experience difficulties in this area of development and to explore different ideas to implement back in their setting.
There are many children in the EYFS who find it difficult to process sensory information e.g. they may avoid tactile or messy play, not enjoy noise. Equally they may be very strong visual learners, and enjoy spinning and lining up objects. Children on the Autistic Spectrum, have Down’s Syndrome, attachment difficulties or developmental delay can have sensory processing difficulties which can make it difficult for them to access activities in the setting. It can also result in them presenting some challenging behaviours. This course is useful for practitioners working with vulnerable 2 year olds or children in F1 and/or F2.

  Course content
Part One:
  • Will consider how we identify children with sensory processing difficulties and how it can impact upon how a child behaves and responds to activities in the setting
There will be a reflective practice activity for the practitioner to complete in their setting in response to part 1 and to prepare for part 2
Part Two:
  • Will explore how we can support children with sensory processing difficulties through a range of practical ideas which are easy to implement in their setting
