From 3rd April 2017 EYFS Statutory requirements state-“All newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on/or after 30 June 2016, must also have either a full Paediatric First Aid or an Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate within three months of starting work in order to be included in the required staff:child ratios at level 2 or level 3 in an early years setting.
The Twelve Hour Paediatric First Aid qualification is suitable for those working at level three and above who are included in a settings ratio's and non-teaching staff who have daily contact with children. Participants of this course will gain knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of emergency situation and medical conditions. 
 
In- Line with EYFS April 2017 this course includes:
  • Assessing an emergency situation and be able to prioritise what action to take
  • Helping a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Helping a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Helping a baby or child who is having a seizure
  • Helping a baby or child who is choking
  • Helping a baby or child who is bleeding
  • Helping a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss.
  • Helping a baby or child who is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • Helping a baby or child who has had an electric shock
  • Helping a baby or child who has burns or scalds
  • Helping a baby or child who has a suspected fracture
  • Helping a baby or child with head, neck or back injuries
  • Helping a baby or child who is suspected of being poisoned
  • Helping a baby or child with a foreign  body in eyes, ears or nose
  • Helping a baby or child with an eye injury
  • Helping a baby or child with a bite or sting
  • Helping a baby or child who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
  • Helping a baby or child having : a diabetic emergency, an asthma attack, an allergic reaction, meningitis , and /or febrile convulsions
  •  Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Appropriate contents of a first aid box
  • The need for recording and reporting accidents and incidents
