Target audience: EYFS leaders and practitioners
This course aims to enable practitioners to gain a greater understanding of the importance of physical development in the early years and to have the opportunity to explore different fine and gross motor activities which can be developed back in the setting.
Physical activity is not only crucial for the health and emotional well-being of the child, but is also vital for cognitive or thinking skills and language development.
Course contents includes:
- How movement is so closely linked to the other prime areas of learning.
- The importance of the vestibular (sense of balance and coordination) and proprioceptive (body position) systems for children’s learning and development.
- How to support children’s fine and gross motor development through continuous provision and adult directed activities.
- Practical ideas to support physical development as a prime area of learning back in your setting.
