Developing Early Language and Communication Skills
(for those children who are at a pre-verbal and/or early verbal level of language)
There are many children who are now entering F1 with very low levels of language. This can create a huge barrier to accessing the EYFS. This course will help the practitioner to understand why some children have such low levels of language and will provide ideas to implement in the setting to support these children to make progress.
This course is useful for those practitioners supporting vulnerable 2 year olds and those children with significant speech, language and communication delay in F1 and F2.
The aim of the course:
To enable practitioners to support children who are non or pre verbal or at early verbal levels of language through a range of practical ideas.
The course will include a practical ideas pack.
- How does language develop?
- The factors which delay language
- How to identify a child’s level of language
- Practical ideas to use in your setting to develop early communication and language, development of speech sounds, linking gestures to early words, looking for opportunities to develop language through such activities as ‘giggle time’, providing ideas for parents to support at home and planning/creating language friendly environment/activity bags to use for small group activities.
