British Values in the EYFS

Target Audience:  EYFS leaders and Practitioners
Since 1st September 2015 Ofsted have been inspecting all early years providers on how well they ‘actively promote’ British Values. The way your setting and staff deliver this integral part of EYFS will impact on your judgement from Ofsted under the section of Leadership and Management.
This course offers the opportunity for participants to explore the five British Values of Democracy, The rule of law, Individual liberty, Mutual respect, Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs and how they can be incorporated into the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage to help children develop a good understanding of how to treat others equally, How to and why it is important to follow rules, a strong sense to self-worth, of how to appreciate and respect their own culture and the culture and being valuable members of their own community and society as a whole. 

This course will include
  • Understanding the importance of providing activities to enable children to make decisions
  • Understanding how to work together in creating rules and boundaries and how to support children to self-regulate
  • How to teach children to value themselves and have the confidence to make choices
  • How to teach children about gender, cultural and racial stereotyping, providing opportunities for children to celebrate different cultures
